HIAB Delivery Explained: How We Get Your Cabin On Site
One of the questions we are asked most is how a cabin actually gets onto a site. For us the answer is our own fleet of HIAB lorries, run from our base in Manchester.
What is a HIAB?
A HIAB is the everyday name for a lorry fitted with its own hydraulic loader arm, mounted just behind the cab. The same vehicle carries the building and lifts it off at the other end, so one visit covers both the journey and the placement, with no second machine to book.
How a delivery works
Before we book a slot we ask for the postcode, a description of the access and where the unit is going to sit. Photos of the entrance and the spot you have in mind help a great deal. On the day, the driver parks on firm hard standing beside the base, puts down the stabiliser legs and lifts the unit across on slings or forks.
Because the arm can reach over walls, fences and parked vehicles, the lorry does not need to get right up to the final position. That makes tight yards, school grounds and town-centre plots much easier to serve. The route in and the standing area both need a firm, hard surface.
Preparing the ground
The building needs a firm, level base — a concrete pad, compacted hardcore or a yard surface. Jackleg units have adjustable corner legs that take out a slope, which saves laying a new base on uneven ground. If you are not sure what your plot needs, send us a few photos and we will tell you.
Linking and moving later
The same lorry can set two units side by side to make a larger space, and it can come back later to lift a building onto another site when your project moves on. We also collect units we are buying from customers — see selling your cabin.

Our own fleet covers mainland England, Scotland and Wales. We price each delivery by postcode and access, so you only pay for the distance and effort your job needs, and we give you a date when you enquire rather than a standard lead time.
